Normalize volume

A podcast that is too quiet, a voice memo that shouts: Spoel measures how loud it sounds and sets it right.

How it works

Normalize volume in three steps

  1. Choose your recording

Drop an audio file or a video in the box. Spoel measures the loudness straight away.

  2. Choose the target

Online video and music, podcast, or radio and TV. You see how much louder or quieter it will be.

  3. Normalize and download

Choose the format and save the new recording. Your original stays as it was.

Questions

Good to know

  • What is LUFS?

The loudness measure used by streaming services, broadcasters and podcast apps. It measures how loud something sounds to the ear, not just how high the peaks go. -14 LUFS is louder than -23 LUFS.

  • Why does Spoel sometimes not quite reach the target?

Spoel never pushes the sound above -1 dB, because then it would distort. If a recording has a few loud peaks, it stays a little below the target. That is more honest than distortion.

  • Is my recording sent anywhere?

No. Measuring and normalizing happen in your browser, on your own device. Nothing goes to a server.
