Make a GIF from a video

Choose a section of up to 20 seconds and turn it into a GIF that loops endlessly.

Your file stays on your device

How it works

Make a GIF in three steps

  1. Choose your video

Drop it in the box or choose it. Spoel shows it on a timeline.

  2. Choose the section

Up to 20 seconds. Also choose how many frames per second and how wide.

  3. Make and download

Spoel builds the GIF frame by frame. You see it move right away, before you download.

Questions

Good to know

  • Why is a GIF so large?

GIF is an old format that stores almost every frame separately, with at most 256 colours. Fewer frames per second, a smaller width or a shorter section make the file a lot smaller.

  • Does the GIF have sound?

No, a GIF never has sound. If you want sound, trim a video with Trim a video instead.

  • Is my video sent anywhere?

No. The GIF is made in your browser, on your own device. Nothing goes to a server.
